RAISE YOUR PROFILE - BE PREPARED - BE
TRAINED!
Quite naturally, as a communications
company, we are going to encourage all business people to take advantage of our
skills! We know what a difference improved communication can make. On the other
hand, we aren't the only people highlighting the importance of improving spoken
communication.
Branson voted best by 94%
Recently the AZIZ Corporation conducted a survey among top UK
companies. Rather depressingly Britain's top business leaders are not thought
of very highly when it comes to communicating their message. They are
considered to be inept at using the media and have a correspondingly low
profile with not only the public but also their peers. When asked which leading
businessperson they considered best at communicating through the media, 45% of
respondents chose Richard Branson, while an amazing 41% could not name anyone
they admired! When asked which figurehead best represented their company via
the media 94% chose Branson and his Virgin Group.
Untapped Potential It
can't just be Branson's woolly jumpers! Just imagine the extra potential of
British business if these leaders could improve their spoken communication and
raise their profile. The thought of being 'trained' in speaking and presenting
can be a little daunting, especially to more senior personnel. In our
experience, the reality is something different. The potential and untapped
talent of so many of our participants constantly impresses us. The skills we
train will enhance even the most successful leader. For instance, we know that
in public speaking it is important to know how to keep levelheaded, in control
and focused on the audience. We know how dangerous it can be if we aren't armed
with these skills.
Remember Ratner! In
1991 Gerald Ratner (who ran a chain of successful high street jewellers) learnt
how dangerous it could be. He was an entertaining speaker, but on one occasion
completely misjudged a throwaway remark, referring to his products as 'total
crap'. It was said in an over-confident moment when he came 'off script' to get
a laugh. When the press reported his speech customers felt so insulted they
stopped buying Ratner goods. The following year the company had to be sold and
Gerald Ratner resigned.
Our training gives people the skills:
- to handle themselves confidently and to be in control in
all situations.
- to give well-structured speeches, which engage and
entertain an audience.
- to successfully handle the media. We know these skills
make a difference.
