The Power of our
Voice
It's not what we say - it's the way that we
say it. An old adage with a great deal of truth. Why?
The Power of
Influence When we are listening to someone speak we not only take
in the words, but we are subconsciously being influenced by the sounds of the
voice (the pitch, tone, intonation, pace etc). We call this the tonality - it
is the melody that gives meaning to the words. It is this tonality that
influences the listener's thoughts and feelings. These thoughts and feelings
can change our interpretation of and response to the meaning of the words. All
actors know that using the same words in different ways can make an audience
think and feel many different things.
Business Fact: People make
decisions with their unconscious mind (emotion) and VALIDATE them with Logic.
Which is why 'the way we say it' is so important.
The Power of
Attention 'The way we say it' - the tonality (movement and
interest) in the voice, keeps our listeners listening. If the voice movement
flattens too much we effectively hypnotise our listeners. They will lose
interest and find their own thoughts more interesting. Most of us will
recognise this experience in meetings and at conference. Clear communication
isn't always as simple as saying the words in the right order. So if you have
an important message to put across, remember that the way you say it will be as
important as what you say.
Make it make sense. We can
help you make even more sense and help you get the response you want. Voice and
delivery coaching is included on all our courses and always receives an
exceptional response.
